What is Shrine ?

So here is something about a temple in Miriya village, Ratnagiri. The village was on the coast of the White sea beach (Pandre Samudra), and the main occupation of the people there was fishing. Their everyday routine there was fishing early in the morning and selling the fish to the fish traders of other villages. At the end of every month, villagers used to gather at the beach and used to do Maha Pooja to thank the Samudra Dev for keeping them happy and healthy. One day early morning a villager saw a man in white clothes lying unconscious by the road, seeing him he called more people for help and took him to a ved in the village. The ved treated him and after some time he woke up and started asking for food. The ved's wife gave him Ghavne (neer dosa) chutney to eat, while he was eating the ved informed the villagers that the man they found had woken up. Soon the villagers came and asked him who he is and where did he come from. As they were asking questions the man saw a blind woman among the villagers, he ignored all their questions and called her in front of him. As she came in front of him he kept one hand on her eyes and the other hand up in the air, closed his eyes, and started mumbling something. After some time he took his hand from the woman's eyes and as she opened her eyes she started jumping looking everywhere, she could see everything now, she was not blind anymore. Seeing this the villagers were stunned seeing his powers, they again started asking the man who is he and that's when the man spoke, he said "My name is Mahapurush, thank you for saving me and giving me food, I should leave now", saying this he stood up and was about to leave when the villagers stopped and insisted him to stay with them in the village, they gave him a house to stay and provided him food every day.

Now, whenever people had any problems they used to go to the Mahapurush and he used to solve them. These days some villagers stopped gathering for Maha pooja on the beach. People started believing more in Mahapurush than Samudra dev. Slowly the Samudra dev had started getting angry but the villagers were clueless about it.

After some years the Mahapurush suddenly disappeared, and the villagers tried to search for him a lot but failed. Then they decided to build a Mahapurush temple on the road sideroadside where they first found him. After the temple was made they started doing Poojas there and completely stopped gathering for the maha pooja on the beach. Samudra dev felt this insult and anger took over him. The sea used to keep flooding, due to floods their boats were destroyed and whenever they went for fishing they couldn't catch any fish. Because of this, the economy of the village dropped. People were jobless, they had no money to educate their children because which literacy of the village also dropped. They even prayed to allot in Mahapurush temple but nothing worked the problems were getting worse.

One day an old lady of the village suggested the villagers to build a temple on the beach for Samudra dev and start the Maha pooja ritual again to make him happy as he was angry

because the villagers ignored him and started believing more in Mahapurush. But now most

people being jobless they had no money to build a concrete temple. So they decided to make the temple from mango, and jackfruit wood. Soon the temple was made on the coast of the beach. Maha Pooja was held and slowly the Samudra dev cooled down and everything started getting normal economy of the village started growing as people started fishing again, and kids started going to school. The temple also worked as a shade for the tired fishermen, kids used to sit in the temple to study and play, and women used to meet and gossip. And Even thoughtthough the temple was made of wood it didn't rot due to the salty water.

So we designed a Shrine for the villagers
